Arrests by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency have spiked in the last few weeks, with a daily average hitting 1,400 people. 

The pace of ICE arrests in the first 12 days of July sets the Trump administration on track to reach the highest number of arrests in a single month, the Washington Post reported. 

The number of people arrested and sent to detention facilities by ICE in June was 39,500, which surpasses the previous high from December. 

Following two fatal shootings in February in Minneapolis, ICE arrests dropped in February. They have increased every month since, and ICE has hit 2,000 arrests per day several times in that period. 

President Donald Trump has said he wants to deport 1 million illegal immigrants per year. Arrests by ICE agents are up by more than 40% between this year and the same period last year.
