Department of Veterans Affairs advertises poll worker jobs to veterans amid shortage
"Veterans can receive around $200 per day serving as a county poll worker," the newsletter advertised.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs advertised poll worker jobs to veterans in a recent newsletter, noting that counties usually only secure half the workers needed for an election cycle.
The top of a VA newsletter sent out Wednesday reads "Seeking Veterans to Assist with Upcoming Elections: Earn Up to $200 Per Day."
"Veterans can receive around $200 per day serving as a county poll worker. More than 50% of counties report a shortage of poll workers during an election cycle. It's easy for Veterans to apply to be poll workers," it continued.
The newsletter links to a post on the VA News website from September 2022 that states it "was edited in June 2024 to reflect the same need for the 2024 election."
The post noted that Vet the Vote campaign from the We The Veterans Foundation was "seeking to recruit 100,000 Veterans and military family members to be poll workers in the 2022 midterms and other future elections." According to Vet the Vote's website, "more than 63,500" veterans worked through the Vet the Vote campaign in the 2022 election cycle.
The VA News post also noted, "[m]ore than 1 million volunteers are needed to run national elections. If only 10% of the 17 million American Veterans enlisted as poll workers, that would easily fill the void of any poll worker shortage."
