Documents from the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Biden administration reveal that transgender procedures were provided despite a rule prohibiting them.

Procedures were conducted that allowed people to present as the opposite sex with prosthetic devices, even though federal regulations exclude “gender alterations” from the medical services that the VA can provide, The Daily Wire reported.

The VA narrowly interpreted the regulations, holding that they only referred to the surgeries.

“Since 2011, VA has provided all medically necessary transition-related care for transgender and gender diverse Veterans except surgeries,” according to a VA document obtained by The Daily Wire.

The term “medically necessary” was also broadly interpreted. A 2020 document stated that hair removal was cosmetic and could not be covered, but a Biden administration document instructed VA staff how to pay outside providers for laser hair removal on a transgender person’s “face/neck, back, chest, abdomen, or genitalia,” and record it as “unlisted procedure code for skin, mucous membrane, and subcutaneous tissue.”

The Trump administration said on Monday that, in accordance with the president’s executive order on Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government, the VA would cease providing “medical treatments for gender dysphoria,” besides for those who had already started the treatments at the department.

This statement followed the VA rescinding a 2018 policy providing transgender-related medical services to transgender and intersex people on Friday, Fox News reported.
