DOJ to release special counsel report on Biden's handling of classified materials: Report

The Department of Justice plans to soon release a report on President Joe Biden's handling of classified materials, the Washington Post reported, citing "people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe still-secret plans for the release."

Special counsel Robert Hur's investigation came amid discoveries that Biden had stored classified materials at his former private office in D.C. and his Delaware home. The case has largely remained out the spotlight and reports emerged in November that Hur did not plan to bring charges against anyone.

The document is reportedly critical of Biden's handling of the materials and could be released within days, though the Post's sources suggested that the DOJ could delay its publication.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Hur in January of last year amid pressure from Republicans, who pointed to special counsel Jack Smith's investigation of former President Donald Trump over a similar issue as justification. The FBI raided Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in August of 2022 and Garland ultimately appointed Smith to lead the case after Trump announced his 2024 White House bid.
