FAA investigating 'close call' between two planes at Boston airport
FAA investigators plan on determining how close the planes came.
The Federal Aviation Administration is probing a "close call" between a JetBlue plane that was landing and a privately owned Learjet that departed without clearance at the Boston Logan International Airport, the agency said.
An air traffic controller Monday evening instructed the Learjet pilot to line up and wait on Runway 9 while the passenger jet landed on an intersecting runway, the FAA said, NBC reported Tuesday.
"The Learjet pilot read back the instructions clearly but began a takeoff roll instead," the agency said. "The pilot of the JetBlue aircraft took evasive action and initiated a climb-out as the Learjet crossed the intersection."
The Learjet was operated as a private charter by Hop-A-Jet, the agency said.
