GOP FTC commissioner plans to resign, citing disagreements with Democrat chair
Wilson accused Khan of having a "disregard for the rule of law and due process."
The remaining Republican on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced on Tuesday her plans to resign from the commission, citing disagreements with the Democratic chairwoman Lina Khan.
Commissioner Christine Wilson made this public in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, where she lays out how she thinks Khan isn't leading the commission properly.
"I have failed repeatedly to persuade Ms. Khan and her enablers to do the right thing, and I refuse to give their endeavor any further hint of legitimacy by remaining," Wilson wrote in the op-ed. "Accordingly, I will soon resign as an FTC commissioner."
Wilson went on to accuse Khan of having a "disregard for the rule of law and due process."
"That task has become increasingly difficult as she has consolidated power within the Office of the Chairman," added Wilson, "breaking decades of bipartisan precedent and undermining the commission structure that Congress wrote into law."
Khan, along with other Democrat commissioners, released a joint statement that said "while we often disagreed with Commissioner Wilson, we respect her devotion to her beliefs and are grateful for her public service."
They also wished her well in her next endeavor.
Wilson's resignation gives President Joe Biden an opportunity to appoint another commissioner.
