Group of IGs from across federal government urge Biden to dump Trump-era IG
Cuffari’s office did not return a request for comment but a White House spokesperson said "the findings of misconduct in this report are concerning."
A panel of inspectors general from across the federal government urged President Biden to fire the Trump-era inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security, Joseph Cuffari, who has been critical of the Biden administration's lack of enforcement of immigration law.
The IGs accused Cuffari of improper use of taxpayer funds and retaliating against other employees in his office who expressed doubts about his qualifications for the job, according to a confidential report delivered to the White House first reported by Politico. The report specifically found that he spent $1.393 million on the hiring of a private law firm, WilmerHale, to investigate three members of his office staff. Democrats later publicly released the full report.
The report also said Cuffari allegedly misrepresented his credentials to Congress when he said he left a previous government job mutually when it was an attempt to avoid disciplinary actions for his conduct.
