Trump DOJ directs prosecutors to investigate state, local officials obstructing immigration laws
Some local elected officials have come out against Trump's plan of "mass deportations" before he took office.
The Department of Justice has reportedly ordered federal prosecutors to investigate any state or local officials who do follow President Donald Trump's new immigration laws.
The direct was made in a memo obtained by The Associated Press and states prosecutors must “take all steps necessary to protect the public and secure the American border by removing illegal aliens from the country and prosecuting illegal aliens for crimes."
Some state and local leaders opposed Trump's plan before he took office to mass deport illegal migrants.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said last year that he would encourage mass protests if Trump conducted deportations.
Massachusetts Democratic Gov. Maura Healey said she would "absolutely not" comply if the Trump administration mobilized state police to help with the deportations, according to local media.
