U.S. national debt climbing to a record $39 trillion
The total U.S. national debt is growing by about $71,800 per second, according to the U.S. Joint Economic Committee Republicans.
The total U.S. national debt is rapidly approaching a record $39 trillion.
The debt is currently close to $38.5 trillion, according to the latest U.S. Treasury Department data.
According to the Treasury, at the end of 2025, the U.S. government had $37.64 trillion in federal debt.
"In 2025, the national debt increased by $2.17 trillion compared to 2024," read a page on the Treasury's fiscal data website.
Current appropriations run out at the end of the month.
