NYC Mayor Adams under investigation over possible flight upgrades: Report
Authorities have been investigating Adams' mayoral campaign over an alleged scheme to accept illegal foreign contributions from the Turkish government.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly under federal investigation over his possible receipt of free upgrades on Turkish Airlines flights, the New York Times reported Friday, citing "people with knowledge of the matter."
Authorities have been investigating Adams' mayoral campaign over an alleged scheme to accept illegal foreign contributions from the Turkish government. The FBI seized his phones in November of last year in connection with the probe.
At issue are flights Adams took to Turkey while Brooklyn borough president in which he may have received upgrades from Turkish Airlines. Adams attorney Brendan McGuire said, according to Politico, that "[a]s borough president, the mayor consistently disclosed his official travel to Turkey, did not receive any improper upgrades and did nothing inappropriate in exchange for an upgrade."
"Speculation is not evidence. We look forward to a just and timely conclusion to this investigation," he continued.
Adams has not been charged in connection with the probe and has maintained his innocence.
"I have nothing to hide," he said in November. "As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation — and I will continue to do exactly that."
