Secret Service agent accidentally shoots himself, expected to survive

A U.S. Secret Service agent accidentally shot himself in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night, according to the agency.

The agent was reportedly on duty when the incident occurred in a residential part of the city's Northwest corridor. 

The agent was purportedly handling his weapon when a "negligent discharge" occurred, resulting in non-life threatening injuries.

The agent was transported to a hospital and treated and no one else was injured.
