President Donald Trump expressed disappointment Monday in U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro's handling of the Reflecting Pool controversy, claiming she "choked."

Pirro's office moved last week to drop charges against a former Olympic athlete they accused of vandalizing the Reflecting Pool outside the Lincoln Memorial, claiming that new information has since indicated that damage to the pool was the result of a rushed job.

Trump has rejected Pirro's claim that it was a botched job and insisted over the weekend that it was a "pure case of vandalism." 

“Frankly, I think she choked, because the judge was really vicious," the president said Monday, during an unrelated White House event. "Instead of going after the people that did it, the judge went after her and went after her department, and I guess she choked."

“I was disappointed in Jeanine Pirro. Really disappointed in Jeanine Pirro,” he added. “She folded like an umbrella.”

Two sources have also told CNN that Pirro could loser her office over the scandal, claiming the president was "blindsided" by her office's court filing.  

The court filing, which Pirro claimed was filed by her office and not her personally, stated that she would not have sought a grand jury indictment against former Olympic canoeist David Hearns if the Department of the Interior was more forthcoming. 

“Given all of this newly discovered information, it is difficult to attribute the widespread damage to the Reflecting Pool to vandalism, let alone to establish that fact beyond a reasonable doubt,” the filing read.

Hearn was one of seven people who faced charges in what the administration said were efforts to sabotage the renovation project. Hearn pleaded not guilty to a charge of destruction of property, the only felony charge among the seven suspects, last month.
