President Trump will reportedly make Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Troy Edgar the U.S. ambassador to El Salvador.

Edgar was confirmed by the Senate in March, meaning he does not need further Senate approval for the new role, CBS News reported. A start date has not been set yet, but it will likely be soon, according to two unnamed sources. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Edgar have had a good working relationship, per multiple anonymous sources.

The White House and DHS didn't immediately respond to CBS News' requests for comment.

Trump used the Alien Enemies Act in March to send illegal immigrants to a maximum security prison in El Salvador as he sought to deport individuals accused of being members of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. After their imprisonment in El Salvador, they were returned to Venezuela in a U.S.-brokered swap over the summer.

The Trump administration last month reached a framework for reciprocal trade agreements with South and Central American countries, including El Salvador.
