Trump officially nominates Kristi Noem for DHS Secretary
Noem will oversee the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service and the the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday night officially nominated South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem for Secretary of Homeland Security Secretary.
The former president is currently fleshing out his incoming cabinet ahead of January's inauguration. Noem, who has served as South Dakota's governor since 2019, is a Trump loyalist. She will oversee the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service and the the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
"Kristi has been very strong on Border Security," Trump said in a post to Truth Social. "She was the first Governor to send National Guard Soldiers to help Texas fight the Biden Border Crisis, and they were sent a total of eight times. She will work closely with "Border Czar" Tom Homan to secure the Border, and will guarantee that our American Homeland is secure from our adversaries."
If confirmed by the United States Senate, Noem will replace current DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
