President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated former Missouri Rep. Billy Long to lead the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) next year.

Trump has spent the past month filling out critical roles in his next administration. He has already announced his Cabinet nominees, which includes two Fox hosts and several allies such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The incoming president said he has known Long since 2011, and touted his 12-year tenure in the House in a statement on Truth Social. Long has also spent 32 years in real estate, and worked as an auctioneer.

"Since leaving Congress, Billy has worked as a Business and Tax advisor, helping Small Businesses navigate the complexities of complying with the IRS Rules and Regulations," Trump said in the statement. "I have known Billy since 2011 - He is an extremely hard worker, and respected by all, especially by those who know him in Congress. Taxpayers and the wonderful employees of the IRS will love having Billy at the helm."

Long, who will still need to be confirmed by the Senate, is expected to replace current IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel, who was appointed to a five-year term by President Joe Biden in 2022.
