The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on Monday announced that it broke a record for the most amount of travelers screened on Sunday, with nearly 3.09 million people screened.

The TSA's previous record was set in July, when airport security screened more than three million travelers for the first time in the administration's 23-year history. The number on Sunday surpassed July's number by approximately 74,000, the Associated Press reported.

The numbers come after thousands of travelers saw their flights canceled or delayed at airports across the country on Sunday. Airlines canceled approximately 120 flights, and delayed another 6,800, according to FlightAware. The largest areas to experience interruptions were Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Monday is also considered a heavy travel day, and airports had canceled about 80 flights and postponed another 2,000 by midday.

Amtrak rail service also saw delays on Monday between Philadelphia and New York because of damage to electrical wires, per AP.
