U.S. Appeals Court blocks rest of Biden student debt forgiveness plan

A federal appeals court blocked the Biden administration from moving forward with the rest of its new student debt relief plan on Thursday.

Seven Republican-led states had sued over the U.S. Department of Education's latest debt relief plan. 

U.S. District Judge John Ross in St. Louis had blocked additional student loan forgiveness from taking place under the administration's Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan but left the rest of the plan in place.

The attorneys general of the seven states asked the judge to halt the other portions of the plan. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis ultimately granted the request.
