U.S. marshals to stop holding illegal migrants for ICE: report

The U.S. Marshals Service is reportedly preparing to limit the agency from holding illegal migrants for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Marshals would be unable to hold illegal immigrants for pickup by ICE at the direction of an immigration warrant, also known as a "detainer" request, according to the Washington Times.

Even if the agency finishes processing a migrant for custody, it must reportedly release the person even if ICE has requested a hold, under the proposed policy.

While officials claimed the policy is still being drafted, the Times reported, based on an employee memo, it has already been implemented in at least one jurisdiction in Florida.

Illegal immigration has increased under the Biden administration. U.S. Customs and Border Protection have encountered a record of more than 2.2 million migrants during fiscal 2022.
