Progressive House Democrats on Wednesday heckled GOP Rep. George Santos, who was on the steps of the Capitol as he spoke to reporters ahead of a vote to remove him from office over federal charges of money fraud.

Last week, Santos pleaded not guilty to a 13-count federal indictment including charges of alleged wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements to Congress, mostly in connection with the November 2022 election campaign.

On Wednesday, New York Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman shouted at members of the GOP who were present: "Kick him out. He's gotta go. ...  Resign. Save yourself. Have some dignity."

He also shouted: "New Yorkers need better."

Later in the day, House members voted to refer to the chamber's Ethics Committee a resolution to expel Santos, instead of voting themselves on expelling him.

Progressive stalwart New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told Santos, "You gotta go. You gotta give it up."

Santos then told the reporters, "I can't continue to address you guys because there's a deranged member here, so I'm gonna walk."

Bowman later got into an argument with Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, telling her the GOP is "hanging by a thread."

"You gotta save the party," Bowman told Greene. "No more QAnon, no more MAGA, no more debt ceiling nonsense."

Greene responded by starting an "impeach Biden" chant.

Bowman later told her to "do something about guns," to which Greene shot back: "Right, so close the border."
