Michigan GOP Congresswoman Lisa McClain said the Democrats lied in a budget committee meeting Thursday by saying Republicans wanting to cut the military by 22%.

"It said it would cut our military by 22%," McClain told the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "All right? Well, there's nowhere in the budget that says that."

McClain was referring to an inquiry that was sent out by Connecticut Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro to all federal agencies asking them what would happen if the Republican budget was passed.  The agencies' responses indicated that chaos would ensue.

"It's typical fear mongering," McClain said in response to the inquiry.

McClain mentioned how spending in Washington D.C. is out of control and has to be reigned in soon.

"We've maxed out our credit cards and we have to get our fiscal house in order," she said.

At the beginning of the month, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told Congress that they must raise the federal government's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling by June 1 to avoid default.

Since that announcement, pressure has increased on President Joe Biden's standoff over the ceiling with Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who wants spending cuts in exchange for lifting the ceiling.
