Atlanta police report more call outs than usual after ex-officer charged with murder
"We have enough resources to maintain operations and remain able to respond to incidents throughout the city," the department said.
The Atlanta Police Department said Wednesday night said that it has had a larger than usual number of staff call outs after one if its ex-officer was charged in a fatal shooting.
"Earlier suggestions that multiple officers from each zone had walked off the job were inaccurate," the department said in a statement to Just the News
"However, the department is experiencing a higher than usual number of call outs with the incoming shift. We have enough resources to maintain operations and remain able to respond to incidents throughout the city," the statement said, echoing a Twitter post from the department.
Fox 5 Atlanta said that the Atlanta police pushed back against reports that large numbers of police were walking off of the job.
"FOX 5 News received several tips that officers were walking off the job en masse, something Atlanta police were quick to correct," the outlet reported. "A spokesperson told FOX 5 a few officers have gone home, but the manpower has not been greatly impacted. The department stressed officers are still on patrol and their call sheets show officers are still answering calls at an acceptable level."
Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard on Wednesday announced 11 charges against former officer Garrett Rolfe, with felony murder and aggravated assault among the charges related to the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks that recently captured national attention. Rolfe has been fired from the department.
Officer Devin Brosnan faces charges that include aggravated assault and other charges.
