Bodies of entire military family found inside garage in Texas in apparent murder-suicide
The San Antonio police department evacuated the area for fear of explosive devices inside the family's home
A U.S. military member, his wife, four children, and family pets were found dead inside a car in the garage of their home in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday from what appears to be a carbon monoxide poisoning, according to local police.
When law enforcement officers arrived to conduct a welfare check, they found a "cryptic" note on the door and strong chemical fumes radiating from the house.
The officers believe the case is a murder-suicide. "Saying it's not pretty ... there's no words to describe that," said William McManus, the San Antonio police chief.
The couple, whose names have not been released, were in their 30's and the children's ages ranged from nearly one year to four years old.
"On the door here was a note, very cryptic, some of it was military jargon, I'm told. The interpretation of it was, there were people, bodies or people, inside and do not enter," said McManus.
Police later sent a drone into the house and found what they believed could be explosive devices. The police department then ordered the evacuation of more than 200 residences in the area. Ultimately, no explosives were found.
