Multiple deaths, injuries reported in Virginia Beach shootings
Coastal city was site of major mass shooting in 2019.
What local police described as “a very chaotic night” in Virginia’s largest city on Friday saw two individuals dead from gunshot wounds and multiple injuries in what authorities say were unrelated shooting incidents.
Virginia Beach police said three separate shooting episodes near the city’s boardwalk resulted in two deaths and nearly 10 injuries.
One individual was shot by a police officer as part of a “police intervention shooting;” another was shot in an unrelated dispute reportedly between civilians.
An earlier shooting near the waterfront had left eight people with injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening, police said; that incident began as “some type of conflict that resulted in a physical fight,” police said in a press release.
One police officer was also reportedly injured after being hit by a car.
