Police identified the suspect as Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, 37, who has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold
The suspect in a Texas Chick-fil-A shooting that left two people dead is in the U.S. illegally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed to media outlets.
Police identified the suspect as Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, 37, who has an "ICE hold" or "detainer" attached to his name.
ICE defines a detainer as a "notice that DHS issues to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to inform the LEA that ICE intends to assume custody of an individual in the LEA's custody."
It is unclear at this time when the detainer was issued.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday and police said it was targeted.
