Two police officers shot, one killed, during traffic stop incident outside of Seattle
The suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A Seattle-area police officer was fatally shot Monday night and another wounded in a traffic stop, according to authorities.
The officers were shot after the stop turned into a brief car chase, then a shootout, said the Bothell Police Department, in Washington.
The incident is among the latest in which officers have been attacked in the aftermath of the May 25 death of George Floyd, who died while in the custody of Minneapolis police officers.
The driver, who was stopped around 9:40 p.m., led the cops on a short chase before he got out and started running, which is reportedly when the gunfire was exchanged. The suspect reportedly hit a man on a scooter, who was also treated for injuries, before getting out of his vehicle.
The suspect then hid on a nearby roof until he was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The first officer was found dead on the scene, and the second was treated for serious injuries but is now in satisfactory condition.
