New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will be officially sworn in New Year's Eve by New York Attorney General Letitia James

The ceremony for the 34-year-old Mamdani, a Muslim and democratic-socialist who ran as the Democratic Party's nominee, will be at midnight in an old, decommissioned City Hall subway station.

He calls the site “a physical monument to a city that dared to be both beautiful and build great things that would transform working peoples’ lives,” according to the news outlet The Nation

There will be a celebration of his inauguration on the afternoon of New Year's Day in which he will be introduced by New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a lead of her party's progressive caucus, and ceremonially sworn in by Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, a democratic-socialist.
