Senate works on Inauguration Day, expected to confirm Rubio as secretary of State

Rubio will likely be the first cabinet member to be sworn in following the inauguration.

Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to be confirmed as secretary of state Monday evening following President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. 

The Senate wil confirm Rubio. 

Rubio will likely be the first cabinet member to be sworn in following the inauguration, according to Roll Call.

Trump appointed Rubio to serve as secretary of state for his second administration. Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis selected state Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Rubio.

Other Trump nominees such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services secretary and Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence have not had their hearings yet.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is also going to vote on the nomination of John L. Ratcliffe for CIA director, Roll Call reports.

The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will likely vote on the nominations of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to be Homeland Security Secretary and Russell Vought for his position for Office of Management and Budget director.
