Prominent Republicans call for swift confirmations of Trump's nominees following New Orleans attack
"The U.S. Senate must confirm President Trump’s national security team as soon as possible," John Barrasso, R-Wyo., wrote on X.
Top Republicans urged for President-elect Donald Trump's administration appointments be confirmed in the wake of the New Orleans terrorist attack.
"Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the senseless terror attack in New Orleans," Sen. John Thune, R-SD., wrote on the social media platform, X. "With reports of ISIS inspiration, the American people expect clear answers from the administration. The threat posed by ISIS will outlast this administration, and this is a clear example of why the Senate must get President Trump’s national security team in place as quickly as possible."
On New Year's Day, a man drove a pickup truck through a crowd of people in the French Quarter before opening fire on police with a gun, killing 15 and injuring dozens.
The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen and Army veteran from Texas. He died in a shootout with police after the incident.
"The U.S. Senate must confirm President Trump’s national security team as soon as possible," John Barrasso, R-Wyo., wrote on X. "Lives depend on it."
Some of Trump's top picks for national security include Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, Kash Patel for FBI director and Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary.
"We need a leader at the FBI who terrorists fear, and the American people can trust to keep our country safe," Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. said. "We must confirm @Kash_Patel ASAP."
