An Afghan national on the FBI terror watchlist was apprehended at the U.S. southern border near San Diego last week, officials confirmed on Sunday.

San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said the arrest took place Wednesday after the Afghani attempted to cross the border alongside a group of migrants near Otay Mesa just days before the expiration of the Trump-era Title 42 policy.

Through March at least 70 foreigners on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended at the border since the start of the federal 2023 fiscal year, the fastest place on record.

“This should serve as a stark reminder to President Biden and the Federal Government on the critical need for maintaining a strong border,” he added.

Rep Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said President Joe Biden and his policies are to blame for the latest terrorist capture.

“Biden’s open borders aren’t just a gateway to 5 million illegals, record human and child trafficking, and the deadliest drug crisis in our history. Biden’s reckless policy is also an open invitation to even the most wanted terrorists in the world to come to America,” Issa said.
