A North Carolinian man, who was recently charged with providing material support to the Islamic State (ISIS), allegedly told an undercover federal agent that he got "excited" when thinking about traveling overseas for the terrorist organization.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Alexander Justin White, allegedly used social media to express support for ISIS and communicated with other supporters of the organization about joining ISIS. He even allegedly made plans to travel to Morocco in December 2024 in order to officially join the foreign terrorist organization (FTO).

The FBI said that during White's alleged conversations with other ISIS supporters he unknowingly spoke to an undercover FBI agent, where he repeatedly showed interest in joining the organization and expressed excitement about traveling overseas with them, per Fox News.

"[The suspect's]many online conversations with various persons, as well as his communications with the [FBI confidential human source] and the [FBI Online Covert Employee] display a longstanding intent and desire to join ISIS which he prepared for and attempted on December 4, 2024," a federal complaint said. "He expressly acknowledged awareness of ISIS as a designated FTO and repeatedly expressed concern over being caught by law enforcement and the efforts he was taking to avoid capture."

He also said his "heart starts pounding fast .. [from] the good excitement" when thinking about traveling with ISIS.

White also allegedly confirmed to the undercover agent that he was willing to kill other U.S. citizens and members of the U.S. military.

Authorities said the suspect also talked repeatedly about planning a trip to Morocco, which culminated in booking a ticket from Raleigh to Rabat, Morocco, on Dec. 4. He was arrested that same day, after going through security at the airport.

News of the arrest comes after FBI Director Christopher Wray claimed that ISIS supporters in the United States who were radicalized "from afar" are one of the most challenging types of terrorists for the bureau.

"You're talking about guys like this, who radicalize not in years but in weeks, and whose method of attack is still very deadly but fairly crude," Wray told 60 Minutes on Sunday. "And if you think about that old saying about connecting the dots, there are not a lot of dots out there to connect. And there's very little time in which to connect them."
