Capitol Police report indicates January 6 security failures happened under Pelosi's supervision
An internal USCP report paints a damning picture of leadership that caused the ill-preparedness of the department for January 6.
An internal Capitol Police report about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot indicates significant security failures that day under House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's watch, according to a recent news report.
The report by the Breitbart News Network details numerous errors made by the department on the day of the incident, including a failure to mobilize specialized civil disturbance units, in addition to an earlier dismantling of an intelligence unit dedicated to tracking threats across social media platforms.
Specifically, the report, obtained earlier this week by Just the News, reveals that, as some have been saying for months, the Capitol Police received intelligence reports from branches of the U.S. intelligence apparatus – including the FBI – warning that there could be violence on January 6, 2021.
That information, however, never turned into a coherent action plan to thwart such a threat should it occur, which it did when protesters stormed the Capitol Building as lawmakers attempted to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.
"The assessment for 1/6 contained a BLUF [bottom line up front] that did not express the severity of the threat or the fact that USCP [U.S. Capitol Police] actually had knowledge of a plan in place," reads one section of the report. "The statement that protesters may be armed was included, but it was never expressed with the urgency that they planned to overtake the Capitol and target Members of Congress."
Referring to Pelosi's leadership, the report also states: "The social media unit was immediately and essentially dismantled under the new leadership. New office reassignments and steering away from the concepts of having subject matter experts may have contributed to the tragedy.
"Individuals with the most experience extrapolating open-source material were not tasked with reviewing social media to glean intel related to the event."
The after-action report has reached circulation as members of the January 6 special House panel to investigate the riot on Thursday night premiered the first installment of their primetime presentation pertaining to their months-long investigation into the incident.
Pelosi has been implicated in a number of questions about security planning and execution on Jan. 6, but has yet to be scrupulously pressed by her colleagues or the media about her role in the security failures of the day.
