A suspect is dead after a driver drove his vehicle into a group of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during an enforcement operation.

ICE agents reportedly attempted to stop a vehicle, but faced resistance from the driver, who drove into the group. One officer discharged his weapon, killing the driver, during the exchange. The impact of the vehicle resulted in one officer being dragged a significant distance. Both the officer and driver were hospitalized, NBC Chicago reported. The suspect was declared dead at the hospital.

“We are praying for the speedy recovery of our law enforcement officer. He followed his training, used appropriate force, and properly enforced the law to protect the public and law enforcement,” Assistant Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
