Former CBP Commissioner cheers Abbott on in expected 'constitutional showdown' with Biden admin
"If the federal government fails their constitutional responsibility, states can step up and protect themselves," Morgan said.
Former acting Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Mark Morgan applauds Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott in his expected "constitutional showdown" with the Biden administration.
"I applaud Governor Abbott," Morgan said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "I hope for every row of concertina wire that's removed, I hope he puts two back up, and I hope this is gonna lead ultimately to the constitutional showdown that is needed here."
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration and ruled that federal agents could cut razor wire fencing that Texas placed along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Abbott responded on Wednesday, stating that Texas had a right to self-defense due to the massive amounts of illegal crossings over the past two years.
Morgan said that Abbott is looking at the situation from a constitutional angle.
"This is a constitutional issue," he said. "His actions are being authorized by the Constitution. And I think he's on the right side of that."
"Article One, Section 10 of the Constitution, we refer to as the 'self help remedy,'" Morgan also said. "It's very clear. If the federal government fails their constitutional responsibility, states can step up and protect themselves."
