Former Chief of US Border Patrol slams Mayorkas for fighting 'so hard' to keep the border open
Scott said that he believes Mayorkas should be impeached.
Former Chief of the United States Border Patrol, Rodney Scott, said Tuesday that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has fought to keep the border open, unlike his predecessors.
"We've never ever had a Secretary of Homeland Security that fought so hard to keep the borders open and to trash the morale of law enforcement," Scott said on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast.
The GOP-led House is scheduled to take a second vote on the impeachment resolution against Mayorkas. He currently faces two articles of impeachment over his handling of border security and illegal immigration.
The articles are related to a "breach of trust" and a "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law."
Scott, who served under both Trump and Biden administrations, also went after Mayorkas for throwing border patrol agents under the bus in 2021 after the White House and news media falsely suggested horse-mounted officers were abusing illegal immigrants.
"He knew that day it wasn't true," Scott said. "He wasn't like the rest of America who was just going off the news and the photos that could be misinterpreted however they wanted. The journalists hadn't come out yet, publicly and said, 'No, that is not what happened.' But basically, the Secretary was there, and he knew. Because he knew behind the scenes that the photographer had said, 'Hey, that isn't what happened.' And he still lied to America for political reasons."
He concluded by saying he wants Mayorkas impeached.
