GOP Senators sound off on Iran deal

While the legislature will certainly make its opinions known, it remains unclear whether any lawmakers would oppose the agreement should Trump send it to Congress.

Republican lawmakers are more than a bit concerned about the terms of the Iran deal and are making their voices heard on the matter.

President Donald Trump recently signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding with Tehran to end the conflict, with the terms attracting scrutiny from Republican lawmakers and Israeli officials alike.

"Giving billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to murder us is not a good idea," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told reporters.

"I believe it would be an error to force Israel to stand down against Hezbollah," Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., said of the deal.

"Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future," said Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La. "Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal."

While the legislature will certainly make its opinions known, it remains unclear whether any lawmakers would oppose the agreement should Trump send it to Congress.

He previously indicated that he would send the document to the legislature, but has not issued a timeline for doing so. Lawmakers received a copy of the document for their own review on Thursday.
