War Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly canceled plans Wednesday to travel to Israel, after the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran collapsed.

The end of the ceasefire and reported ship attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, a key international oil and natural gas shipping channel, fractured a relative calm in the Middle East since mid-June, when the ceasefire agreement, and plans to work on  a more permanent end to the U.S.-Iran war, went into effect.

Hegseth was expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday after the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, in part, to ease Israeli concerns over the possible sale of F-35 planes to Turkey, according to the Times of Israel.
