The Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday awarded $18 million through 35 grants to underserved communities under the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program. The grants went to law enforcement, public health entities, and nonprofits.

The program "provides financial assistance to eligible applicants to develop sustainable, multidisciplinary targeted violence and terrorism prevention capabilities in local communities," according to a department press release.

"In our current dynamic threat environment, any town, anywhere can be a target," Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said.

Grant recipients include Boston Children's Hospital, the Safe States Alliance, and the Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh.

The department anticipates awarding more grants in the spring of 2025.
