Iran launches missiles toward Israel
Sirens are sounding across Israel.
The Israeli Defense Forces on Monday announced that Iran had launched missiles toward the country.
Sirens are sounding across Israel, the BBC reported. The scale of the attack is currently unclear, though CNN teams on the ground have counted "dozens of missiles."
At least some have managed to land hits on urban areas, social media footage shows.
The attack follows a warning from the White House that such an attack was imminent.
Days ago, Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon and confirmed ground operations in the country. The exchange of strikes comes amid the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip that began after the Oct. 7 Hamas raid on Israel, nearly one year ago.
Iran confirmed the Tuesday strike came in retaliation for Nasrallah's death, CNN reported.
"In response to the martyrdom of Martyr Haniyeh, Seyed Hassan Nasrallah and Martyr Nilfroshan, we targeted the heart of the occupied territories," the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said, according to Tasnim. "If the Zionist regime reacts to Iran’s operations, it will face crushing attacks."
Israel has recently exchanged considerable fire with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon as the conflict appears poised to escalate into a wider war.
Iran previously launched drone attacks against Israel in April of this year.
