MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa has lifted a shelter-in-place order from earlier in the day
CENTCOM has been leading the U.S. military campaign against Iran, Operation Epic Fury, from MacDill, since the U.S. and Israel began their joint offensive on Feb. 28.
A shelter-in-place order has been lifted at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. The order had been enacted earlier Wednesday following a threat made against the base.
“Shelter in place has been lifted and the gates are open and will resume normal FPCON Charlie operations,” the base, which is the home of U.S. Central Command, said in a Facebook post. “The threat to MacDill Air Force Base has been cleared and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation,” according to Military Times.
A suspicious device was found Monday near the Dale Mabry Gate, so traffic was then diverted to a different gate, reported a local NBC outlet. That led to the base raising its security level to FPCON CHARLIE.
“This posture allows us to implement deliberate security measures proactively,” the base posted earlier in the week on social media. “All personnel should remain vigilant, follow the direction of security forces, and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
