Whistleblowers say law enforcement stationed to be on roof of shooter's building at Trump rally
Hawley said at least one whistleblower told him that law enforcement officers were supposed to be stationed on the roof of the building that the suspected shooter fired his weapons from, but that one person who was assigned to the roof "abandoned" their post because of the heat.
Missouri GOP Sen. Josh Hawley sent a letter on Monday to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, stating that more whistleblowers have come forward with information on the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
The letter comes shortly after Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified in front of the House Oversight committee on Monday, about the assassination attempt, where she claimed that resources for the Pennsylvania rally last week were "sufficient."
Hawley said at least one whistleblower told him that law enforcement officers were supposed to be stationed on the roof of the building that the suspected shooter fired his weapons from, but that one person who was assigned to the roof "abandoned" their post because of the heat.
The senator also said the heat concerns prompted officials to "forgo patrolling Building 6 and instead station security personnel inside the building."
Cheatle previously indicated that no one was stationed on the roof because of the safety concerns of a slanted roof.
“That building in particular has a sloped roof, at its highest point,” Cheatle said in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday. “And so, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. And so, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.”
The senator requested a response to the letter by Friday.
