Pentagon document leaker worked on military base, report
The leaker reportedly shared several sensitive documents a week starting late last year.
The person responsible for leaking major U.S. government secrets about espionage and Ukraine's war with Russia is reportedly a young gun enthusiast who works on a military base.
The man, known online as "OG," posted hundreds of messages containing classified information in a group on Discord, an online messaging platform popular with gamers, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
The newspaper story said the information was acquired by interviewing two members of the group in which the man shared several sensitive documents a week starting last year.
The two group members spoke on the condition of anonymity but said they know OG's real name and the state in which he lives and works. But they declined to share the information while the FBI is investigating the leaks, they reportedly said.
One of the members received permission from his mom to speak with the paper as he is under 18 and was a young teenager when he met OG, whom he said is in his early to mid-20s.
OG indicated that he brought the documents home from his job on a military base, but the young member declined to say where. OG said he spent at least part of his day in a secure facility that banned electronic devices that could be used to document sensitive information.
The young Discord user was impressed by OG's seemingly prophetic predictions and said, "Only someone with this kind of high clearance" would know these things.
"He’s fit. He’s strong. He’s armed. He’s trained. Just about everything you can expect out of some sort of crazy movie," the member said.
Discord has said it is cooperating with law enforcement.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden said Thursday that the U.S. government is "getting close" to identifying the leaker, according to CNN.
