The Pentagon is expected on Wednesday to begin the process of sending about 1,500 active military troops to the southern U.S. border to help help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

The process will start with acting Defense Secretary Robert Salesses signing the orders, according to The Associated Press.

As of now it isn't clear which troops or units will be sent to the border.

The troops will likely support border patrol agents with transportation and construction of barriers along the border.

President Trump has already signed multiple executive orders cracking down on illegal immigration. He vowed during his winning 2024 presidential campaign to secure the border while suggesting he'd use troops for both.
