Secret Service to use bulletproof glass to protect Trump at outdoor rallies
The Secret Service has increased its protection details on Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, and President Joe Biden, since the shooting.
The United States Secret Service on Thursday has urged former President Donald Trump to use bulletproof glass panels on his podium in order to resume outdoor rallies, a source confirmed to Just The News.
Trump was injured in a shooting last month at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which prompted him to move rallies indoors while Secret Service devised a new plan to keep the former president safe. The Secret Service has increased its protection details on Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden, and vice presidential candidates, since the shooting.
The bulletproof glass will protect Trump on three sides of the podium, according to ABC News, and multiple sets of panels are expected to be stored around the country so it can be trucked wherever it's needed. The bulletproof glass is normally reserved for sitting presidents.
“The Secret Service has asked the president to consider using protective glass at outdoor events and he is certainly willing to do it," a person directly familiar with the plan told Just The News.
It is not clear when the outdoor rallies will resume, or when the former president can expect to start using the panels, but Trump has expressed an interest in resuming the rallies as fast as possible,
"They'd prefer that we be in an arena. I don't know why. But we're not giving up the outdoor rallies," Trump said at an indoor rally on July 31. "You know, all those people that we had to turn away today, at an outdoor rally you can have [them]."
The new security measure comes as the Secret Service investigates another mishap involving Trump, after a Secret Service agent allegedly left her post in order to breastfeed without properly informing the site agent on Wednesday. She was later found with family members who had not been properly vetted, according to the Daily Mail.
