Sen. Kelly: VP Harris 'absolutely' understands border issues during record illegal immigration
During the Biden-Harris admin, illegal border crossings reached a historic high of 12.5 million
Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., on Sunday said Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris "absolutely" understood border issues.
"Yes, she does, absolutely," Kelly said on CBS News's Face the Nation when asked if Harris understood the border. "And I think when we talk about some of the Democrats in the United States Senate that weren't really getting it in 2022 now they get it," The Hill reported.
"So she's been working on this issue. Border crossings on the Arizona border are down substantially. She's been focused on this issue where the former President is trying to undermine our border security," Kelly said.
On Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a monthly report on apprehension data. The report states that "statistics show lowest southwest border encounters in nearly four years."
The report also shows that apprehended illegal border crossers during the Biden-Harris administration numbered "10.5 million in July with two months left in the fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30," Just the News reported.
This number does not account for illegal crossers who evaded capture. Including those individuals, the figure rises to 12.5 million.
"No other presidential administration in U.S. history has ever reported even a fraction of 12.5 million in one term let alone multiple terms combined," Just the News reported.
