Trump fumes over reports of $300B payment to Iran: 'Fake News'
The Iran deal does not involve the U.S. making a direct $300 billion payment to Iran, but point 6 of the Memorandum of Understanding, which both nations signed, does refer to establishing a fund to reconstruct the country.
President Donald Trump on Thursday insisted that the deal to end the Iran war did not include a $300 billion payment from the U.S. and derided reports to that effect as inaccurate.
"There is no 300 Billion Dollar payment to Iran by the U.S. That’s Fake News! All there is for the U.S. is Success, Lower Oil Prices, and Victory. Check out the Stock Market. Dumocrat propaganda at play!!!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
The Iran deal does not involve the U.S. making a direct $300 billion payment to Iran, but point 6 of the Memorandum of Understanding, which both nations signed, does refer to establishing a fund to reconstruct the country.
"The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least USD 300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the MOU reads. "The mechanism for the implementation of this plan will be finalized as part of a final deal within 60 days. All required licenses, waivers, and permissions needed for the relevant financial transactions will be granted by the United States of America."
