The U.S. Capitol Police is reporting an increase in threats against Congress members, their family and staff and the Capitol complex for the third consecutive year.

A total of 14,938 incidents were investigated in 2025, compared to 9,474 cases in 2024 and 8,008 in 2023, local Washington, D.C, news outlet WJLA reported Tuesday.

"While security on Capitol Grounds has already improved, we have been strengthening our partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the country to keep the Members of Congress safe when they are away from Capitol Hill." Chief Michael Sullivan said about the report while also noted the importance of enhanced security measures.

The USCP has significantly increased its number of formal agreements with partner law enforcement agencies, jumping from about 115 to more than 350 departments nationwide in 2025.

USCP Intelligence Services Bureau Director Ravi Satkalmi encouraged agencies without formal agreements to proactively reach out, pointing out how partner agencies are reimbursed for their support in securing Congress members.

The department also expanded its Protective Intelligence Operations Center, which operates 24/7 to process safety reports concerning Congress members.

Jeanita Mitchell, the department's acting assistant chief of Police for Protective and Intelligence Operations, said there was an increase in reporting due to outreach efforts with the Congressional community.
