Indiana Senate Committee advances redistricting map, setting up key floor vote

The vote comes after the state House passed the map in a 57-41 vote last week. The new congressional map would tilt all nine congressional district races in favor of the GOP if passed by both chambers and signed into law.

The Indiana state Senate Committee on Elections voted to advance its redistricting map to a final floor vote Monday, but it is not clear if the map will be able to secure enough Republican support to pass the legislature.

The vote comes after the state House passed the map in a 57-41 vote last week. The new congressional map would tilt all nine congressional district races in favor of the GOP if passed by both chambers and signed into law.

The Indiana Senate panel advanced the map in a 6-3 vote. Several state senators said they would vote for the map in committee, but could possibly change their vote once it goes before the full Senate, according to The Hill.

The move comes after Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray initially signaled last month that his party did not have the votes to pass the new maps, but later said the legislature would meet Dec. 8 to make a “final decision" on it.

The state Senate is expected to vote on the map this week, but it was not immediately clear when the vote would be held.

The redraw comes as President Donald Trump pushes Republicans in other states to redo their maps to give Republicans an edge in the 2026 midterms. The Supreme Court has allowed a new Texas map that added as many as five GOP-leaning districts to be used next year.
