Trump admin plans to freeze millions in federal funds for Planned Parenthood, like groups over DEI
The recent news about the freezing of the funds came after Planned Parenthood shut down its only "health center" in Manhattan.
The Trump administration reportedly plans to freeze $120 million in federal grants to Planned Parenthood and other similar organizations while the Health and Human Services Department investigates whether the grant money was used for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Planned Parenthood clinics in approximately dozen states expected to receive about $20 million from the federal government in 2025.
Upon taking office on Jan. 20, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to end "radical and wasteful government DEI programs and preferencing."
HHS would suspend funding meant to support pregnancy testing, provision of contraception, treatment of sexually transmitted infections and evaluation and counseling for infertility. The agency could eventually entirely rescind the grants or reallocate the money to other organizations.
"The Trump-Vance-Musk administration wants to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers by any means necessary, and they’ll end people’s access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment and more to do it," President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America Alexis McGill Johnson told the Wall Street Journal.
Planned Parenthood chapters have been championing DEI initiatives since 2022, with the most recent post being published on March 10.
The recent news about the freezing of the grants follows Planned Parenthood's announcement that it closed its only clinic in Manhattan to reallocate resources in New York City.
Planned Parenthood did not respond to Just the News' request for comment.
