The White House on Wednesday announced that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will commemorate the 9/11 terrorist attacks by visiting all three sites impacted by the attacks next week.

Next Wednesday marks the 23rd anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade Center in Manhattan and the Pentagon, and the hijacking of a plane which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which resulted in the deaths of just under 3,000 Americans.

Biden and Harris will travel to all three sites next week, which consist of Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville. The memorial honors the 40 people who died on the plane, after they took control back from the hijackers and crashed the plane into a field.

“You will see the president and vice president next week together as they mourn the thousands of lives that were lost on that day and also the first responders who obviously put their lives on the line to protect Americans on that day,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.

Former President Donald Trump, who is the Republican presidential nominee, has not revealed what his plans for the anniversary are so far, but the anniversary will come a day after Trump and Harris face off in a presidential debate in Philadelphia.

The president's visit is a change from last year. Biden faced heavy criticism last year for spending the anniversary in Alaska, after he returned from an overseas trip.

Harris spent the 22nd anniversary at the 9/11 memorial in New York, and first lady Jill Biden laid a wreath at the Pentagon to commemorate the attack.
