President Joe Biden on Friday expressed confidence that policies he claimed are favored by Republicans will drive voters into casting their ballots for Democrats in next month's midterms.

The president made the remarks at a press conference addressing the U.S. budget deficit. Near the end of his planned remarks he pivoted to the midterms.

Democratic chances at winning the House and Senate have looked increasingly grim in recent weeks, but Biden claimed that what he called "Mega-MAGA trickle-down" policies from the GOP would lead voters to revolt against the Republican party in favor of Democrats.

"They want to double down on Trump tax cuts for the wealthy … send jobs overseas…[and] they want to abolish" a 15% corporate minimum tax rate signed into law by Biden in August, Biden claimed during the press conference. "If Republicans get their way, the deficit is going to soar. I have to admit, every once in a while they surprise me."

He also said: "That's why I think we're going to do just fine."

Polls have continued to show Republicans gaining significant ground in national races in recent weeks, with election forecaster 538 this week showing Democratic chances of holding the U.S. Senate declining from 71/29 earlier this year to 59/41 this month.
